Mr. Grand Ole Opry: A thrill of a lifetime

Ed Montana stood side-stage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Saturday night, watching Steve Mariner and John Conlee perform. Montana’s lip started to quiver nervously, as it does before every performance.

This started when Montana first performed with his father at the Military Inn in Detroit when he was 10 years old, a venue which hosted polka music every weekend.

Sod Poodles: An Amarillo Phenomenon

Today — Tuesday, November 13, 2018 — Amarillo’s new Texas League team announced that it would be known as the Sod Poodles.

Sod Poodles is a slang term for a prairie dog.

On the Road: Ed Montana comes around

His name might suggest allegiance to a state much farther north, but Ed Montana is a Texas man through and through. Montana, a resident of Amarillo for nearly four decades, is an archetype of the Lone Star State: boot-wearer and guitar player; entertainer at, and promoter of, barbecues and rodeos; supporter of the military; proponent of traditional conservative values.

Less than two years ago, Montana had no idea what a Sod Poodle was. Last year at this time, he was on the record stating that Sod Poodles was a ridiculous name for Amarillo's Minor League Baseball team name.

Ed Montana releases new song
in honor of Rush Limbaugh

Amarillo TX (February 10, 2021) – I’m very proud and excited to announce the release of my/our newest musical project. Here’s a little background: Several Coors Cowboy Club members and I have been proudly taking our chuckwagon, and cooking skills to a great event in Denver, Colorado for the past 14+ years. The event called T.A.P.S. honors and helps support families of “our” Fallen Heroes. One of the men on the T.A.P.S Colorado executive committee, Tom Tarver sent me an idea for a song. Tom’s not a singer/songwriter, but a real patriot, like everyone involved with this great organization. Tom, like myself, is a fan of Rush Limbaugh. He wanted to pay tribute to Rush, so he sent me two pages of his thoughts on how we could “Thank” Rush, for being the voice for all us Americans.

So, I had it in my head for a couple of weeks, and with Tom’s blessings, added my own thoughts and music. I am proud to present:

“The Ballad of Rush”. As of February 10, it is currently available for download on Free.Auction. We anticipate February 11th or 12th everywhere else. And, yes, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to T.A.P.S. Thank you and Enjoy, Ed.
